My 6-month B-school (SP JAIN) JOURNEY | MASTER IN GLOBAL LUXURY GOODS AND SERVICES MANAGEMENT | MBA | 2019|August 2019 – January 2020 | Janvi Gandhi

Having recently completed my Term – 1 from one of the top B-schools in India, SP JAIN SCHOOL OF GLOBAL MANAGEMENT in Mumbai. I can vouch for the fact that these 6 months have been the most favorite of my life, filled with learnings, experiences, emotions, networking and extremely precious life lessons. However it isn’t as easy as it seems, it felt like an exam I didn’t prepare for as if someone had pressed a fast forward button and left it like that. Chaos was the new routine. Not even exaggerating, there were times when I was in the class presentation at 1 am in the night, and we had classes for all the 7 days in one week. Imagine! Not even one holiday. We had classes for 14 days straight, but trust me it was all worth it. And when your life is in chaos, you have no option but to fall in love with the madness. As I mellowed down, I learned that it was best to take everything in the B-school phase with an open mind, a willingness to learn, a pinch of salt, and a smile.

Thats my Academic Group ❤ and more of like family now ❤

Some of the highlights of these 6 months were

  1. People with almost every kind of mindset
  2. Bombay Times Fashion Week
  3. Masterclasses with some of the most amazing people in the industry
  4. Presentations almost every other day
  5. Fun Italian lectures
  6. Insightful field trips
Mr. Gaurav Sharma
A Digital Solutions’ Architect, New Media Evangelist & an Educationist

(One of my favourite people untill now)
Mr. Sharad Agarwal
Head – Lamborghini India
( The most honest and inspiring motivational talk )
Sula Vineyards learning about wines
A beautiful wine tasting session
Bombay Times Fashion Week |Mr. Anu Malik

During the short period, I got the opportunity to work with one of India’s top Fashion Weeks i.e, Bombay times Fashion week. So I was there for about the entire fashion week for Rajeev Popley, owner at Popley jewelry and an artist as well. We got a management project for their runway as well as PR for the art display by Mr. Popley himself. The experience of being at BTFW itself is so overwhelming. The kind of work vibe which I got was amazing. The fact that u have to be spontaneous and creative and have the deliver the deliverables with the quality asked for is a learning experience in itself. Rajiv sir is an absolute delight to work with and is very understanding and professional at the same time.

The Team for BTFW

My story how I got myself into a B-school after all!

It was around 3 am in the night during winters 2018 in my hostel when I was chatting on the phone with a very dear school friend of mine – Priyal when she casually mentioned SP JAIN ’s Masters in Luxury Brand Management 6-year-old program and honestly for months I didn’t even think of doing this. This was primarily due to 3 reasons :

  1. I didn’t want to do a masters in India.
  2. Being from a fashion background, I was looking for something core fashion and not an overall market perspective
  3. It was a little difficult for me to understand if a 1 year MBA was as good as the conventional 2-year programs.

But who knew I would anyway fill-up the form, complete all the formalities and a couple of months later be part of SP JAIN.

For students who just graduated and want to enroll here are some of the tips I can give based on my experience

  1. Forget your social life
  2. Read – Read – Read ( specifically about the luxury industry)
  3. Don’t expect holidays
  4. Discipline is the key
  5. Try and reach the classroom half an hour before everyone else
  6. Don’t do multiple things at a time
  7. Don’t stress about jobs | It will happen | LEARN
  8. The focus in classes trust me u ll enjoy
  9. Work on presentation skills beforehand
  10. Learn a little bit about formal dressing
  11. Just be you and don’t get lost in becoming someone else just to please anyone. Be original and shine

My First Blog Post

Welcome to my journey …

All we have is Now ….

— Janvi Gandhi.

This is the first post on my new blog. I’m just getting this new blog going, so stay tuned for more. Subscribe below to get notified when I post new updates.

The internet is getting full with a gamut of  interesting information and I , Janvi Gandhi – The Luxury Snob am trying to step into this world of sharing my experiences with tiny steps , one at a time .

This is going to be an outlet of my creative expression for the things , brands , places that I have always aspired for . I believe that life has given me more that I would have asked for . From a very small convent school from a small city ,Faridabad near Delhi in India to an engineering college to fashion design from National Institute of Fashion Technology to “the city of Dreams “ and finally “ The fashion capital – Milan” . I could not have imagined this just an year back .

Yes thats my first day when i stepped out of my house literally because those who know me know that its rare .

Somewhere in between all of this , I have grown a lot . As a person , explored my creative self , learnt discipline , management, people’s skill and so much more .

I have had the privilege to work with some of the luxury Indian Designer Brands which include : RITU KUMAR , VARUN BAHL etc.

Luxury cannot just have one standard definition . To me its always been to just be able to gather so much information in terms of knowledge and I am a true believer of the phrase “Knowledge is Power” . Terri Minsky said that “Luxuryis  an indulgence in something that provides pleasure, satisfaction “ and I couldn’t be happier sharing whatever I learn in my way to you all .

The Luxury Snob is going to be about Luxury Brands , their store VM’s , brand strategies , their current collections, trends , it can be places , cafes that have an interesting USP to them.

This is for all the people who are ambitious, enthusiastic, have goals and a zeal to achieve them.

I would be more than happy to help in whatever way I can help u guys in any little way that I can.

Currently I am in Milan for the Semester – 2 of my ongoing course MGLuxM – ( Management in Luxury Goods and Services ) and I am very excited to visit all the Designer streets which have a rich heritage which marks has an unmatched legacy.

This city is home to the national stock exchange, it’s a financial hub also known for its high-end restaurants and shops. The Gothic Duomo di Milano cathedral and the Santa Maria delle Grazie convent, housing Leonardo da Vinci’s mural “The Last Supper,” testify to centuries of art and culture.

You can catch my newest discovered brands , reviews and perspective banter right here, see what I got up to today.

Some of my favourite things: stationery, handmade dairies, clothes – dresses specifically, positive people ,  quotes, creative inside , constructive criticism .

6 must-watch films and documentaries on Netflix for my fashion snobs

Hi guys, I hope quarantine is not making u all lethargic at home and all of you are safe and sound. Please follow the guidelines given by the Indian government.

Well, well as u all know, I love Fashion and trends especially in the luxury segment and I end up watching a lot of fashion-related content on Netflix.
And As the world’s population distances themselves due to the coronavirus outbreak, no better time than now to catch up on new releases or revisit the old classics.

Grab some pop corn, Nutella jar and indulge your inner fashion enthusiast with these reality TV binges and behind-the-scenes documentaries and biographies that follow fashion’s most exciting and celebrated names.

  1. MCQUEEN

His vision was a one of a kind. When a designer dies, and the house continues with the work, it is simply not the same. He was envied by some designers as well. His shows we’re unparalleled and works of art like his clothes. I literally got inspired by this one.

2. Next in Fashion

The fact that Narresh – an Indian designer was at a global platform made me sooo sooo proud as an indian. After running a successful resort wear brand—the first of its kind in India—for 10 years, having dressed international stars Kim Kardashian West, Beyoncé, Dita Von Teese along with almost every Bollywood celebrity and excelling into wedding decor, Narresh Kukreja pushed himself into another challenge. One-half of the label Shivan & Narresh, the creative director participated in a fashion design competition series on Netflix. Titled Next In Fashion, the 10-episode reality show aired in January 2020 on the OTT platform, where 18 professional fashion designers contested for a major cash prize and a chance to debut their collections at Net-a-Porter.

3. MADDMAN

The shoe brand we all love and we get to see how he built his brand globally , is so inspiring on how this one man army ( footwear designer ) built his own billion dollar empire and faced a major financial scandal but came out strong again .

4. Queer eye

How can a piece have TanFrance and i dont love it . Okay but not getting there and letting myself drool over him for 1000th time .So let’s stick to the point. Now grab some tissues! And feel how makeovers can be so emotional and heartfelt and how did you realise that bring out all the feels.

5. Styling Hollywood

A couple named Jason bowled in and Adire Curtis of JSN studio Connect famous clientele with that chicest looks

6. 7 Day Out

Episode number 7 -Chanel haute couture fashion show Experience the hustle to putting Finishing touches on the runway show designed by fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld

7. Fit to Fashion

Thank me Later guys ❤ Love love ❤️ 💕 💗 💖 💘

Latex from the late 90s is back!

With nostalgia running high for the 90’s fashion , i love how there is an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for head to toe latex fashion trend . So how much Latex is too much Latex ? And the answer to this is : Its never enough !

I remember during my early teens probably when I was 14 I saw The Spice girls – an English pop girl group wearing these shiny latex dresses in all black for the first time and I could instantly associate these fabrics / look with music and pop music .Its so interesting to see the all PVC ensemble as a major fashion trend .

The most recent one is the Kardashian sisters . I love how the sisters were spotted wearing similar outfits at the Balenciaga’s Paris Fashion Week show . I think they kind of looked rejoicing in Balmain’s fresh-off-the runway latex numbers in staggering shades of brown , cappuccino , cognac and caramel . The pronounced sleeves doubled up as a glove is just the focal point . The unapologetically  shiny top to bottom look gave a bondage vibe . Latex pants have made a comeback and is also been seen in SAINT LAURENT reintegrating them for the fall winter 2020.

KIM & KOURTNEY KARDASHIAN at Balenciaga’s Paris Fashion Week show
SAINT LAURENT is my favourite edition revisited the brand’s “well-behaved and overly bourgeoise elegance of the ’90s.” There was lace, cashmere, and a whole lot of latex. That latex came in the form of body-hugging long-sleeve dresses and pants with a sleek, almost a liquid shine to them on the runway. The Saint Lauren woman “loves to take risks,” read the show notes.

I Personally strongly believe though that spandex is just a FAD and not for everyone and not for all demographics / geographics as well because of the fact that it can only be worn at colder places . Its interesting how celebrities like KIM try to be interesting with their dressing which makes pretty good conversation starters.
